let the rain come down

Its been raining a lot here in Altus. 

Usually I'd open up the windows, light up some candles, 

and enjoy the dreary weather...

but instead it's making me a little crazy. 

I'm having a hard time not having a "home."

When we were getting ready to move here, I thought, 

three months? No problem. 

We've been here a month and I am feeling

very unmotivated and gloomy. 

Today I found this beautiful fashion illustrator via Pinterest. 

Looking at her work reminded me of how much I love to draw, 

so I think I'll bust out the water colors and get some art therapy.

This performance and Anne's win was all I needed.

Oscar Night

The Oscars are this weekend. Yes! 

This year won't be quite as exciting seeing that we'll be in a hotel room

with no friends, DVR or fake Oscar ballots. Sigh... 

but Kiki-Leeky had a fab idea, and I'm copying it pronto. 

What I'd wear to the Oscars. 

(Best Costume Design, anyone?)

It's a toss up between this soft blue Jenny Packham dress and this peachy Elie Saab number.

(Lets be honest. I'd probably want to design my own dress. In a perfect world.)

With either dress I would choose a very slicked back and fresh faced approach to hair and make up.

Afterwards my husband and I would party hop with our best friends Emily Blunt and John Krasinski

and dance until dawn. A girl can dream right?

I'm just loving Taylor's style lately. 

She's growing up.

How about that awkward moment when Brad joked about her Kennedy boyfriend, 

not knowing that they had just broken up? Yikes.

Yesterday my friend Haley suggested we have a little photo shoot 

to practice her photography skills and to give me some blogging material!

(I can tell this is going to be a beautiful friendship)

We had a lot of fun making taza-esque photos with flower crowns, glasses, and maiden braids.

Oscar Fashion

Oscars have come and gone!

We had a lovely little party here with 

Minnie's "Cream Pie", The Artist "Black and White" Brownies, 

and The Descendents "Hawaiian Lava Flow" Daiquiris.

Jake won the ballot contest for the second year in a row by guessing twelve awards, 

and I followed closely behind by guessing a measly six of the nominations.

Lame. 

And my favorite dresses were...

1. Penelope Cruz. A Modern Day Latino Grace Kelly.

2. Octavia Spencer. That's right girl. Get your modest on.

3. Kristen Wiig. I don't know why but I love the simplicity here. 

And a close runner up...

The Artist's Berenice Bejo.

I LOVE THE COLOR. Mint lover for life.

Not a huge fan of the structure. But still gorgeous.

*random fact: Berenice got her start as the lady in waiting in A Knight's Tale.

With the exception of the wicked cold that's destroying my body, it was a perfectly enjoyable Sunday.

Teaching our four year olds about being a child of God.

and Playing Ticket to Ride with our neighbors.

Remind Me

Some days I'm just lazy... and it rocks.

I remember being in school all day and getting an hour break for lunch.

I hated when it ended. 

Now it doesn't. 

I know what you're thinking. 

(lazy bum, get a job, you are pathetic)

And I will, I promise.

But today while I was being lazy, I found a lovely home makeover blog.

It's called Vintage Revivals.

Very inspiring.

Jake and I also got asked to speak in church.

It was inevitable. 

I finally made my pumpkin snickerdoodles.

And ate almost all of them.

I fell back in love with The Civil Wars.

And watched the CMA's.

I forgot how much I love Martina McBride.

Carrie Underwood decided to show off several different looks.

One month until my birthday folks. 

23 will be an interesting year. Full of changes.

Here comes Irene

Hello dream dress... why do you have to be over three hundred dollars?

Here's a picture of dear sister, soaking wet, fighting Hurricane Irene over in North Carolina. Is it weird that I'm kind of jealous she get's to experience it first hand? Yeah, I guess that's pretty wrong...

Would it make more sense if I told you that Twister was my favorite movie when I was eight?
I'm sure I'll eat my words soon.

Boots for Me

I have an obsession with boots. I think every woman does.

  Remember when I said online shopping had gotten the best of me?

Well I gave in and bought this pretty pair of boots.

Hopefully they don't let me down like my last pair from Delias.com

One thing is for sure, these make me even more desperate for fall!

Infatuation with Fall

Looking at the sale section on Anthropologie.com is never a good idea. Especially with all of this stuck inside on the computer, doing nothing, needing uplifting crap that is going on... and everyone knows clothes are what make me happy. Correction, Anthropologie clothes make me happy.

So tonight I am fashion hungry, especially with these delicious fall picks.

Hunter Green... Pockets... Lantern Sleeves... I pine.

Can't you see it with a brown skinny belt, Navy blue tights, and flats?

 

I desperately need some skirts in this clothes sticking to your skin weather, this one has the flow, length, and colors that I love. Seriously, why do they make all skirts so short?

And with this blouse on top...? Once again, the sleeves. LOVE. 

Jake and I were able to see a lot more of Enid today. The power went out on base in the morning and everything was closed down. It didn't come back on until late afternoon. So staying inside or outside was impossible. Therefore, we resorted to shopping and movie watching off base. Man does that heat and confusion get us edge. But all ended well with Papa Johns, Ranier Cherries, Capri Sun, and Bachelorette. More on our time here tomorrow!
