His truth is marching on...

Today I am missing these fine people.
I've spent Memorial Day with them all my life
and this is the first time I've missed it! I think.
It's terribly depressing when you start missing out on family traditions.
Someone have some fried chicken and orange jello for me.

Lately

We have had a full house lately.
Jen and Isaac's cat has been staying with us for a while now,
which means we're now a interracial and inter-species family.
We're also watching Hazel, our Westipoo neighbor for the next week.
Ya, I guess we're just pet lovin people.

Our friends Jen and Isaac finally got offered a house on base...
and it just so happens to be right behind us!
We're very excited for them.
It's going to be a fun summer.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Memorial Day weekend!

Climbing high into the sun

I've been slacking on the blog.
Which usually means I'm busy doing other things.
I forgot how awesome and exhausting it is to have friends.
We've been eating out nonstop.
Which brought me to Zumba this morning,
which caused me serious exhaustion this afternoon.

Jake's nearly done with the t-6.
Which means we're halfway through pilot training!
I can't believe we've been here 9 months.

There has been lots of ups and downs since then,
but I must say I have grown rather fond of this place called Oklahoma.
Not too fond mind you, I'll be eager to leave come December.
Nevertheless, I'm glad we came here.

lets set the world on fire

It's been a busy, busy week!
Jake started his formation flights this week
which means we are almost to the end of the T-6.
This is exciting stuff people.

In other news, Maizey has been having lots of fun
playing with her bestie Hazel and pissing off our temporary cat.
Also, she's been eating out of his litter box.
Which makes me want to vomit.

Jake has taken up golfing and I have hopes
to finish my living room and have a garden that is not dying.

Hope you are having a lovely hump day.

Coconut Macaroons

Cristina's Coconut Macaroons

4 packed cups coconut flakes
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 TBSP melted butter.
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Form into cone shapes and put on parchment paper covered cookie sheet. Bake 350 for at least 15 minutes. Let them bake until golden brown

I got this recipe/photo from my mother.
They are so soft and sweet. Oh, and SUPER easy.
Perfect for a summer snack.
They were a delicious treat for our Bachelorette premiere.
Speaking of which, this guy...

If Freddy Prince Jr. and Chuck Bass had a love child, this would be him.

Matrophobia

 Dear Future Maternal Me:

Congratulations on conquering your fear of becoming a mother!  I knew you could do it.

Motherhood is something you've puzzled over for many years. It's a lot of responsibility, and I'm sure you feel overwhelmed most of the time. Owing to the fact that I know how stressed and forgetful you can be, I thought I would remind you of some goals you have/had concerning child rearing.

- Teach your children sewing, cooking, nutrition, finances, and most importantly, hard work. Take the time to focus in on each child's talent and encourage them to carry out their goals.

- Be patient. You've always had a bit of a short fuse and I hope you've learned to control it. Remember to take a moment for silence and meditation. Ask your husband for help when you feel defeated. He needs reminders too.

- Get involved. Plan activities with your kids and include them in your interests. Make memories and hold traditions for them to pass on to their kids. Make family time fun and consistent.

- Be an example. Take care of yourself and maintain a strong testimony. Always be firm in your beliefs and values. Never let your children question what you stand for and why. Take the time to study and pray for surety and guidance.

- Be trusting. Let your children make mistakes and learn on their own without you breathing down their neck or invading their privacy. Be someone they can come to when they need advice. Keep their secrets. Share the disciplinary work as a couple and always support each others decisions.

-Make your husband and children the highest priority in life. It's important to have a social life and hobbies, but always put your family first. Never let them doubt your interest in them. Be a cheerleader and a coach.

-Always take the high road. You have a tendency to be apathetic. If they hurt your feelings, let it go because you are the adult. No matter how stupid or childish the issue is, do not hesitate to reach out to them and listen to their troubles. Show compassion and concern for their troubles.

Courtney, remember that you have always wanted to be a mother. At times you'll want to throw in the towel, but don't give up. It's okay to make mistakes, just take a deep breath and learn from them. Show love to your husband and support him because he'll make mistakes too. The most important thing to remember is to never let your family fall apart.

Sincerely,

Your younger and naive self.

(READ THIS EVERY MOTHERS DAY)

A special thank you to my mother for teaching me to be the woman I am today. I am grateful for her continuous love and support. She passed down many things to me including a love for music, children, and life. A daughter's relationship with her mother is the most important and complicated relationship she'll ever have. It's something to treasure and protect, no matter what happens. I love you!

Throwback Thursday

Whenever I'm in Idaho, I go crazy looking through old photos and videos.
It makes me all sentimental. Time travel, where are you?
Here's a glimpse into my high school years.
Spring breaks in Hawaii... Birthdays in Sun Valley... Disneyland in the Fall...
Yes I am aware of how spoiled rotten I was. am. whatever.

Hawaii is the only place you'll see Lauren being all touchy-feely with me.
Disneyland... sigh...
Best Friends.
Right after Kendall lost his magic trick in the creek. All time favorite picture of him.
Choir nerd for life.
Mint top... where are you?
I actually love to climb and repel. I never do it. But I like it.
Girls Camp.
NYC.
Dance parties in the basement.
Sun Valley.

In My Hometown

1. How my step mom does birthdays.
2. Happy 52nd Dad!
3 . The calm before the storm.
4. Snakebite's amazing salad.
5. Maddox. A family tradition.
6. Bow ties and Cocoa Krispies.
7. Brigham temple is almost done!
8. Jack Scott's blessing.
9. Dear hair. What am I going to do with you?
Shave you off in a fit of rage?

So I'm back in Enid. And it's about time.
The hours felt like days in the end...
probably because of the petty tears and
 multiple trips to the airport.
But alas, we made it!

Tomorrow we play hosts to some cool cats from Utah.
Bless their sweet spirits for coming down south.
Jake couldn't be more excited. He's like a wittle boy on Christmas Eve.
A Bestie and a Cosmo all in one day.

One year ago.

A year ago I put on one ugly black synthetic gown
and an awkward cap,
held my husband's hand and climbed the stairs to a stage
to celebrate the end of my college years.

I remember hating college. I hated the classes.
I hated the pressure.
Now, a year later, I wish I could go back.
I learned so much and met some amazing people in those four years.
Including my husband.

I miss the days of walking the quad and seeing the mountains in front of me.
I miss the silly conversations in the costume shop about reality TV.
I miss that sense of belonging and continuous learning.

So for all of you students who pine for the day that you can take that diploma
and flip Blackboard the big one, take heed.
You will miss it.

Desperately.
