Jake's Journeys: Iceland

I don't know why it took me so long to do this! Oh wait, we had a baby. Blogging isn't priority.

Jake always comes home with many stories and great pictures from his time flying, I'm going to try and do a better job at documenting them! Here's a little peek into his twenty-four hours in Iceland.

He and his crew took off around four in the afternoon from Travis and flew directly to Keflavik, Iceland (...surprisingly only an eight hour flight). For the next 2 1/2 days, they didn't see the sun set. They landed around 11am took naps and then hit Reykjavik to see what Iceland was all about. First impressions...super expensive and weird food. An apple = $6, Bag of Grapes = $9, Whale Steak = not worth it. All in all, Reykjavik didn't live up to his expectations, but the following day they flew into a different airfield on the opposite side of the island that was surrounded by lush green fields and snow capped mountains that opened up to a massive fjord.  So beautiful!

Other Iceland Mentionables:

  • Weird penis museum
  • Leifr Eiricsson statue given by the U.S.
  • People were wearing "Kill Whales" (they would not do well here in Cali)
  • Bachelor parties there are all about humiliating the groom (flying them in acrobatic planes, dressing them as hula dancers, etc)

BFs in SF

Guys, I did it. I finally had an enjoyable day in San Francisco!

My two best friends flew in for a long weekend. They happened to get here at the exact same time my husband arrived from his sixteen day mission in hell, not to mention my baby was growing four teeth, so naturally things were a little crazy.

Our time included a viewing of The Fault in Our Stars, (read the book NOW) a trip to Panera and Trader Joes, (musts in California) swimming and fajitas.

To top off our weekend together we took the ferry to San Fran and strolled through an amazing Farmers Market, then we took the cable car to our hotel, shopped in Union Square, ate the perfect meal at The Cheesecake Factory on top of Macys, and souvenir shopped in Chinatown.

I am the luckiest girl for having such loyal and hilarious long time friends, I cannot thank them enough for the lovely visit. So excited to continue these girl trips with them!

eight months and a baby daddy

Happy Father's Day!

Can't believe we're in the middle of freakin June. Days rolls by here in a hot and hazy blur. Jake's been gone a lot, and he deploys in less than a month. Big sigh...

Nevertheless we're embracing summer and all of it's beauty. Like eating ice cream at least three times a day and taking walks to the park in the early morning before it gets hot.

Graham has turned into a chubby bundle of curiosity and teeth. He wants to eat and grab everything and his smile is the most hysterical thing I have seen. I catch myself constantly gawking at him in disbelief that he is, indeed, my child. He is the most brilliant mixture of Jake and I. Recently he has learned to clap and his grunting/spitting is back leading me to call him "Chunky Monkey". He continues to scoot and stand on his own, which means we have only a few moments left of limited mobility.

Naturally Jake is gone for his first Father's Day (as was I on Mother's Day) so we'll celebrate with him later, but I wanted to tell him how much I love him. He is such a cute papa. I know there is nowhere else he'd rather be than with us but he continues to serve his country with a big smile and a unfailing sense of humor. Thanks for working hard and allowing me to stay at home with our perfect creation. We have so many great years and fun parent moments ahead of us!
