framed fabric

I was right.

It's rainy.

That's okay though...

I've got Redbox and my endlessly cluttered house

to keep me busy. Plus I'm applying to be a substitute teacher!

That's right, Courtney's finally getting a job.

Here's a really simple craft I've been meaning to post:

Framed Fabric.

Last month we had family come into town and I desperately
needed to put something on the wall in the extra bedroom.
I took some fabric, put it in an extra frame and Voila! Art.
Basically the same as embroidery hoops just bigger and fancier.

It's easy and that's how I like it.

Hoopla

I'm obsessed with embroidery hoop art.
It's just so easy! And the possibilities are endless.
After using it in my living room and loving it,
I wanted to do it somewhere else.
So then I thought... uhh why not use it to hang my blasted earrings?

1. Get yourself some lace or meshy fabric to hang your dangle earrings and put some sturdy weaved fabric behind it for the posts.

2. Buy a embroidery hoop, the size of your choice, at any craft and fabric store. I got mine at Hobby Lobby for around a dollar each.

3. Trace your hoop on the fabric, cut it out leaving about 1/2 inch around the circle. Put some tacky glue on the inside of your hoops to hold the fabric in place, I found this out the hard way. Put both parts of the hoop together and pull the fabric tight! Trim the excess fabric once the glue has dried. Tighten the knob to secure it even more.

*You can loosen and tighten the hoop by twisting the thingy on top.
That's right. It is called the thingy.

After I was done, I hung it up on my wall right next my new, classy, full length mirror.
I think I will add a couple more to the mix and make an earring hanging collage!

Canvas State Art

Guys, I finally put my big girl panties on and decorated this house.
I hate spending lots of money on art, so lately I've been trying to
recreate things I find on Pinterest!

I bought some 11x14 canvas at Hobby Lobby and used some
left over paint to make this Utah creation.
I got my inspiration from this digital print and this canvas on Pinterest,
but I did it a little differently.

1. I used six pieces of paint tape and put them directly on the canvas to make the shape of Utah. You can move them around until you like the way it looks, make sure its there's an equal space on both top and bottom. Seal the tape with your fingernail to make sure no tape slips underneath. If it does, grab a clean wet paintbrush or a Q tip to dab it up.

2. Fill the state space with the color of your choice. Acrylic paint works great, I used the leftover latex paint from my desk makeover. Make sure you leave a square open around your hometown, then go in later with a small brush to line out the heart. If you want to make it easier, just go back at the end and paint a heart in the color of your choice. I was weird and wanted it to be bare canvas.

3. Let it dry, then go back in with the paint tape (it's my best friend) and block out your state shape. Finally space out your lines, I did mine about an inch and a half apart. Block out the white stripes with tape, seal it, then paint it! I went in after with some water color to add a little depth.

Let it dry, peel the tape off, and enjoy your fantastic, cheap, piece of homemade art!

I'd choose to be attacked by twelve walkers before I'd choose to watch the debate.

Okay, that's a little melodramatic... but check out their makeup. Holy Moly.

SOO i choose to makeover my blog :) and make jewish apple cake. yuuum.

Christmas Crafting!

They're done...
They're snowy...
THEY'RE MASON JAR SNOW GLOBES!

Here is Anthropologie's version I saw last month.... Here is my version made last night.

My supplies, all bought at Hobby Lobby. I love those fifty percent discounts....
this project was less than five dollars to make and I'm happy with the way they turned out.
I molded some styrofoam to fit inside the jars, glued the trees in place, covered the base with crumbled styrofoam and tacky/glitter glue. Then I painted the trees with silver glitter glue and sprinkled them with the "snow" glitter. They looked perfectly frosted and fluffy! I added a few mini pinecones for extra cuteness.
These other Christmas crafts kept me pretty busy last week. I made some pinecone ornaments and garland. I just love pinecones..,
Then I attempted a no sew ruffle tree skirt. I had only enough fabric for half of the skirt and the hot glue was highly irritating... but it turned out okay for now. I'll try again next year :)

This morning Maze and I had a photo sesh. You're shocked, I know. She's just too cuteeeee.
Then Jake and I put up some sparkly snowflakes.
Our neighbors are all super into Christmas lights, so I attempted to do the same.
It was freeeezing but we did it! And we might do more tomorrow... watch out.

Happy Christmas folks!

Tulsa

Yesterday we decided to get the heck out of Enid.
I've been sitting around here far too long and just needed to drive far away,
So we went to Tulsa!
We ate at the lovely Panera Bread...
(I just can't get enough of their Pumpkin Muffies.)
Then took the pup to Woodward Park. It was lovely!
It was a wonderful seventy degrees and there were leaves everywhere...
just what I needed.
I also got to hang out with my friends Anthropologie and Target. I love them.
Anthro has some great homemade Christmas decor that I'm going to copy.

Yuup!

Another week in Enid is half way over... it's been a pretty productive one!
Jake and I are having fun playing house. We're spending lots of time trying to tend our yard
because it hasn't had any sort of attention in years. The poor thing is so dead and patchy.
In other news...

I decorated the door today with a little craft from pinterest

Jake and I watched lots of Storage Wars on A&E.
You should definitely Tivo it. Barry is my favorite, of course.

and we stopped by the thrift store today and bought a sewing desk.
I have big plans for this little beauty!
I'm just trying to decide on the color I want to paint it...

Freedom

Not having classes is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I can already feel the stress and tension leaving my home. And high 60's for weather? Ummm love that! I finally got around to making these beauties
I love parties....
AND I even started a new book!
Coming out this August!
Oh, and if you haven't seen this yet...
You must. I think I'll see it for the second time this week...
Oh, and you have to try this recipe... SO GOOD!
