L'anniversaire de Jacob

Lemme tell you something.

The Kearns know how to party.

Jake deploys in almost a week so I wanted to make his birthday extra special. I decided to go French themed (he served his LDS mission in France). We served lemon rosemary chicken, pasta, salad, baguettes, cheese and grapes, and his darling cousins brought their "vooth booth" (a slow motion video booth) which caused some big laughs and a baby announcement. It was a fantastic night, we're glad we got to spend it with our family!

Jake's Journeys: Iceland

I don't know why it took me so long to do this! Oh wait, we had a baby. Blogging isn't priority.

Jake always comes home with many stories and great pictures from his time flying, I'm going to try and do a better job at documenting them! Here's a little peek into his twenty-four hours in Iceland.

He and his crew took off around four in the afternoon from Travis and flew directly to Keflavik, Iceland (...surprisingly only an eight hour flight). For the next 2 1/2 days, they didn't see the sun set. They landed around 11am took naps and then hit Reykjavik to see what Iceland was all about. First impressions...super expensive and weird food. An apple = $6, Bag of Grapes = $9, Whale Steak = not worth it. All in all, Reykjavik didn't live up to his expectations, but the following day they flew into a different airfield on the opposite side of the island that was surrounded by lush green fields and snow capped mountains that opened up to a massive fjord.  So beautiful!

Other Iceland Mentionables:

  • Weird penis museum
  • Leifr Eiricsson statue given by the U.S.
  • People were wearing "Kill Whales" (they would not do well here in Cali)
  • Bachelor parties there are all about humiliating the groom (flying them in acrobatic planes, dressing them as hula dancers, etc)

eight months and a baby daddy

Happy Father's Day!

Can't believe we're in the middle of freakin June. Days rolls by here in a hot and hazy blur. Jake's been gone a lot, and he deploys in less than a month. Big sigh...

Nevertheless we're embracing summer and all of it's beauty. Like eating ice cream at least three times a day and taking walks to the park in the early morning before it gets hot.

Graham has turned into a chubby bundle of curiosity and teeth. He wants to eat and grab everything and his smile is the most hysterical thing I have seen. I catch myself constantly gawking at him in disbelief that he is, indeed, my child. He is the most brilliant mixture of Jake and I. Recently he has learned to clap and his grunting/spitting is back leading me to call him "Chunky Monkey". He continues to scoot and stand on his own, which means we have only a few moments left of limited mobility.

Naturally Jake is gone for his first Father's Day (as was I on Mother's Day) so we'll celebrate with him later, but I wanted to tell him how much I love him. He is such a cute papa. I know there is nowhere else he'd rather be than with us but he continues to serve his country with a big smile and a unfailing sense of humor. Thanks for working hard and allowing me to stay at home with our perfect creation. We have so many great years and fun parent moments ahead of us!

The Day We Met.

Five years ago today I went to a bonfire to see a friend sing (she's the pretty blonde on the right). I remember hoping to see my secret crush Jon Kidd but instead I met Jake Kearns, the man I would one day marry (they have the same initials, which is ironic). I didn't think a whole lot of it. I remember he told me he was from Draper and he had a sister named Courtney. I moved on, looking for my crush and then, out of nowhere, the boy I just met got up to sing. Jaw dropped. Heart fluttered. Okay... I see you now! (Jon who?)

After that night, I couldn't get that boy out of my head. I saw him at various school events throughout the week but never approached him. Later I found out he'd be my neighbor the following year. I kept a sliver of hope all summer that something would happen. When I finally moved in, I walked up to him and guess what happened? Nothing! He didn't remember me! How disappointing. So I decided to play it cool. Let him come to me. Didn't work. In fact, it back fired and he became interested in a friend of mine instead! Oh, I was mad. Forget him! I mean the guy loves country music. Not my type anyway. So I was myself from then on. Told myself I did not care, and of course, that's when the magic happened.

Fast forward five years and we're college graduates, moving to California, and still madly in love!

(Our year of dating...)

I wonder what the next five years will bring!

Toner Time

The house is quiet and lonely today.
My mom and Mckell have gone back to Idaho and I miss them dearly.
We had a great time showing them Enid's "finest"
including the great T-1. I can't believe Jake is done flying it!
I'm so very proud of him.
He's my hero. and my oxygen.
Also, he's a pilot.

Globemaster

In case you didn't hear, we got our assignment!
Jake will be flying the C 17 at Travis AFB in California.
We are thrilled. It was the first plane Jake wanted
and the perfect location for our little family.
We'll be closer to home, the beach, Target, and DISNEYLAND!
Can't believe we're done with pilot training...
two more weeks until Graduation :)

Movie Monday

In case you missed it.

Fall may be my favorite season but it does have one small fault.
Football.
Look, I have no problem with the sport. I enjoy going to football games, I even begged to play with the boys back at Sunnyside Elementary and told the teach when they wouldn't let a girl on the team.
But.
Men are WAY too passionate about it.
I get that girls have their reality shows, and their "Project Runway" that they get into,
but I don't take it personally. They do. It's emotional for them.
It's like they're a part of the team.
I mean Jake has never even attended BYU, but its in his blood.
He lives for it. He was counting down months in advance.
And honestly, I'm happy for him, but when his team isn't doing well, it's very difficult to be in the same room.

So, when our Alma mater was neck and neck with his least favorite team...
Things were getting ugly.
Luckily I found out moments before our DVR caught up that we were going to win.
So I caught his reaction on tape.

If only he'd get this passionate about my fall wardrobe...

Fiesta Birthday

Yesterday was Jake's 26th birthday! After some pleading and pouting, I convinced him to let me invite a few people over for a little fiesta fun. Everyone devoured the Tres Leches, drank lots of cream soda, and flew his short lived remote control airplane. We've been so blessed here in Oklahoma to make such wonderful friends. Thank you for making it a special day!
