Some music. Because it makes me happy.

New Sara music, Eeeeek!

Dear Phoenix, thanks for the new album, even though I'll never get sick of this song.

A while back, Jake and I went and saw Silver Linings Playbook. Loved the movie, loved the music. Especially this song. I was SHOCKED to find out it is a woman singing it! Crazy good.

Also, one throwback for my mom.

Happy hump day everyone.
I'm ready for the weekend.

Wichita Wildlife Refuge

What a crazy week!
We were on our way up to Wichita Wildlife Refuge
for a little camping trip when we heard about the Boston Bombing.
When we reached our campground, we went out and sat by the lake,
reading and reflecting on the world around us.
It's shocking what we as humans are capable of.

After spending time there without all of the fuss of the world
it made me want to run off to some remote location in the mountains
and live off the land, no distractions, just us.
Would you do it? If the world got bad enough?
Let's create our own "village" shall we?

The Day We Met.

Five years ago today I went to a bonfire to see a friend sing (she's the pretty blonde on the right). I remember hoping to see my secret crush Jon Kidd but instead I met Jake Kearns, the man I would one day marry (they have the same initials, which is ironic). I didn't think a whole lot of it. I remember he told me he was from Draper and he had a sister named Courtney. I moved on, looking for my crush and then, out of nowhere, the boy I just met got up to sing. Jaw dropped. Heart fluttered. Okay... I see you now! (Jon who?)

After that night, I couldn't get that boy out of my head. I saw him at various school events throughout the week but never approached him. Later I found out he'd be my neighbor the following year. I kept a sliver of hope all summer that something would happen. When I finally moved in, I walked up to him and guess what happened? Nothing! He didn't remember me! How disappointing. So I decided to play it cool. Let him come to me. Didn't work. In fact, it back fired and he became interested in a friend of mine instead! Oh, I was mad. Forget him! I mean the guy loves country music. Not my type anyway. So I was myself from then on. Told myself I did not care, and of course, that's when the magic happened.

Fast forward five years and we're college graduates, moving to California, and still madly in love!

(Our year of dating...)

I wonder what the next five years will bring!

telegrams

I guess I have some pictures to post...
Things here are moving on slowly,
It's getting warmer and I found a nanny job!
It's only a week a month, unfortunately.
But the kids are great!
10 month olds are the cutest humans.
I want one.

1. Drawing my way to sanity.
2. General Conference outside with Gushers.
3. Maizey the cat.
4. Jake's observation flight, being refueled by the C-135.
5.  We went camping last weekend and forgot firewood. Jake searched the area
for some and stumbled upon a general store. After peeking though the windows, a creepy
man let him in and locked the door behind him. He was a real life hoarder but instead of killing him, he gave us a nice bucket full of firewood, then he invited us to come back for breakfast in the morning.
6. On the way back, he drove past some Bison.
7. Alli and Maizey.
8. Cuddling while the powers off.
9. Baby Jack.
10. Reliving our childhood at the Pizza Hut lunch buffet.
11. Swinging at the Park.
12. Date night at the...
13. Back Door Steakhouse

Take me back, Tuesday.

(taken by this little lady right before we left for OK)

Sometimes I long so much for the "good old days."
You know, the poor college days.
Those times where you were completely broke and yet blissfully happy.

Riding my bike to Smiths in the Summertime...
Walking down to Shaffers bakery on Saturday mornings.
Visiting family on the weekends. Camping in Green Canyon.
Man, we had it good!

Whenever I get stuck in these nostalgic ruts, Jake always is the first to remind me that at the time... we hated it. I could not wait to graduate and get out of that tiny apartment. And I'm sure, a couple years from now, I'll look back at our time here in Oklahoma with watery eyes and a soft heart. At least I hope I will. Until that day comes, I will continue to repeat this in my head...

We shouldn’t wait to be happy until we reach some future point, only to discover that happiness was already available—all the time! Life is not meant to be appreciated only in retrospect. “This is the day which the Lord hath made … ,” the Psalmist wrote. “Rejoice and be glad in it.”6
Brothers and sisters, no matter our circumstances, no matter our challenges or trials, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring gratitude and joy if only we will see and appreciate it.

let the rain come down

Its been raining a lot here in Altus.
Usually I'd open up the windows, light up some candles,
and enjoy the dreary weather...
but instead it's making me a little crazy.

I'm having a hard time not having a "home."
When we were getting ready to move here, I thought,
three months? No problem.
We've been here a month and I am feeling
very unmotivated and gloomy.

Today I found this beautiful fashion illustrator via Pinterest.
Looking at her work reminded me of how much I love to draw,
so I think I'll bust out the water colors and get some art therapy.
Thanks for the inspiration, Paper Fashion!

Easter Sunday

Another lovely weekend in Dallas.
I really don't know what we would have done without The Roses
these past couple years away from home.
We take any opportunity we can to visit, this time it was to celebrate Easter,
one my favorite holidays.

Ours was filled was the usual egg hunts,
candy feasting, Sunday worship and a family feast.
Maizey did manage to find a dark chocolate bunny
and ate half of it while we were at church.
So after much vomiting and and a lot of stressing out (on my part)
I think she's okay. Apparently the darker the chocolate
the worse for the dog... yikes.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
