Migraines

Alright so here's the deal. I got an awful migraine headache today and it completely ruined my day. I laid in bed for most of the night until I gave up my bravely fought battle around 9 o'clock and fell asleep. 5 hours later I woke up craving a bowl of cereal, and that got me thinking... why does this awful ailment haunt my life?! So at two in the morning, I did a little research. It seemed a better time as any since I figured I wouldn't be going back to bed for a while. Alright so the Wiki version of the story tells me that these babies have been around since 400 BC. Yikes, and in the middle ages people thought them a symptom of witchcraft (my husband would agree with that one). They're more common for women more than men. Uhhhh are you joking me? Why did we get handed that short stick? There is no found cause for these piece of crap headaches although they are mostly genetically disposed (thanks mom, thanks dad!!). They can also worsen quite a bit when one is prego (can't wait for that 9 months of bliss...). There are also some different kinds, there is the kind where you have motor weakness and can't function (that's you Kari Porter) or there's the kind where you can't really speak (that's you Nicole Morrison). Not quite sure where I lie, all I know is that every light, noise, and smell can lead to intense pain or nausea in a matter of seconds so... I end up in a dark lonely room wanting to take a few Tylenol PM's and wake up some time later this week. Preferably around Friday at 12:30. Dare to dream! But this I found interesting. Nasal stuffiness is a symptom. Totally had that and couldn't figure out why, thank goodness for Wikipedia. Also, pain in the temples and tenderness of the neck occur....check! And an impairment to concentration and mood, which explains my lack of ability to fry an egg today without wanting to throw the pan across the kitchen.  Also if you're wondering about food triggers, avoid MSG, bacon, hot dogs, salami (dang i eat that every day). chocolate, nuts, peanut butter, citrus, onions, dairy, bananas, and avocados. And I'm once again bugged that men don't get these. Also, gluten has been linked to migraines. Soo I probably should've listened to my grandma on that one. Weather is also a link. Yeah I knew that one. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this bitter diatribe on this syndrome that haunts my life. Since that age of like four to be exact, (there's pictures of me asleep in front of the toliet at that age... sad). I hope to now get back to bed, but as for you blog readers.... reach out to a migraine sufferer in need today. Oh and if you know any miracle treatments, throw me a comment with some tips pretty please! Love you long time.

  3. Exederin Migrane is what my husband's doctor recommended. That and a big shot of Dr. Pepper for the caffenated aspect. That is the only thing that helps him. I am so sorry you have to deal with this :( I remember you having them as a little girl. Hang in there!
